FAQ

What are ACA Plans?

ACA Plans (sometimes called ObamaCare or Individual & Family Plans) are major medical health insurance policies issued by insurance carriers that conform to the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) – a federal law in the United States that aims to improve access to affordable health insurance for all Americans.

What coverage should I expect?

There are many plans on the health care Marketplace that you may qualify for. ACA plans fit within 4 health plan categories: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. These categories are based on how you and your plan split the costs of your health care.

Bronze: Low monthly premium with higher costs when you receive care. A good choice if you want a low-cost way to protect yourself from worst-case medical scenarios, like serious sickness or injury.

Silver: Moderate monthly premium with moderate costs when you receive care. If you qualify, you can get extra savings with a Silver plan, such as cost-sharing reductions and premium tax credits.

Gold: High monthly premium with low costs when you receive care. If you require a lot of care, a Gold plan may be the best value for you.

Platinum: Highest monthly premium with the lowest costs when you receive care. Your deductibles on Platinum plans are very low.

ACA Plans include essential health benefits such as:
  • Ambulatory patient services (outpatient care)
  • Emergency services
  • Hospitalization
  • Maternity and newborn care
  • Mental health and substance use disorder services
  • Prescription drugs
  • Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
  • Laboratory services
  • Preventative and wellness services and chronic disease management
  • Pediatric services, including oral and vision care
How does THIA choose a plan for me?

When choosing the best plan for you, our insurance engine, THIA, considers many factors including your lowest out-of-pocket spend and the widest coverage in your area. We'll email you details about your plan once you're enrolled, but if you have any questions regarding plan options, premiums, carrier networks, or our enrollment process, you can call our insurance agents on 1-877-547-1616.

How do I qualify?

Eligibility for ACA Plans is based on total household income, whether you have access to affordable health insurance through your employer or another government program, such as Medicare or Medicaid, and other income requirements that may vary by state. ACA Plans are available to non-incarcerated U.S. citizens or legal residents living in the U.S. that meet the enrollment criteria.

Are there any additional discounts or savings with ACA Plans?

Depending on your income and other personal details, you may qualify for additional cost-sharing reductions to help lower what you pay for copays, coinsurance and deductibles.

*$0 premium plans may require copayments or deductibles
